Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a commitment that requires both partners to actively participate and be willing to make changes that may be uncomfortable, upsetting, and/ or challenging. Our practice policy is to schedule an initial consultation session so that our clinicians can assess, provide psychoeducation, and give clinical recommendations.

Sometimes factors indicate that couples therapy may not be an appropriate first step, and in these cases, the clinician will be able to make these recommendations after a consultation session.

In the event that couples therapy is indicated, this consultation session also allows for more effective and personalized goal setting with your clinician. In this case, the consultation appointment will be followed by a formalized intake assessment.

We do not bill insurance for couples therapy as it is not a covered service by insurance plans. This is because insurance companies do not see it as medically necessary and it does not meet the medical model requirements of focusing sessions on one person’s mental health diagnosis.
